Budget accommodation
Wake Up! Byron Bay
With only a line of trees separating it from Belongil Beach, Wake Up! Byron Bay has that beachy, bohemian Byron vibe, and a recent refurb is the icing on the cake. Offering a modern take on hospitality, you can choose from traditional double and twin rooms or cottages sleeping up to six. Wake Up! is also one of Byron Bay’s top hostels, so if you’re flashpacking or travelling solo, try the super-economical with shared bunk-bed rooms for four to 12 people, including women-only dorms.
While you’re there, head next door to one of Byron’s best restaurants, the Treehouse on Belongil. Nestling between palm trees, this popular place serves cocktails and woodfired pizza virtually on the beach. And you don’t need to worry about working off those guilty pizzas, it’s easy with Wake Up!’s free bike, surfboard, and stand up paddleboard hire, plus yoga and fitness classes.
First Sun Holiday Park
Located in the centre of town and fronting directly onto The Wreck Beach, First Sun Holiday Park hosts a variety of accommodation plus caravan and camping options.
If you’re not bringing your own accommodation, First Sun’s Hippy Huts bridge the gap between camping and staying in a cabin and are great for couples and families. These are well equipped with a TV, kitchenette, aircon, and a BBQ on the balcony.
You’ll also find a selection of cabins, some with ocean views, that have all mod cons including aircon, fans, TV, DVD, an outdoor section, and BBQ.
Alternatively, choose from a mix of basic but comfortable lodges. Situated at the entrance to the park, lodges have access to a well-equipped kitchen, including BBQ’s, a microwave, and a large fridge. First Sun Holiday Park also has kid’s activities during school holidays, laundry facilities, free wifi, and an essentials kiosk.
Mid-range accommodation
Reflections Holiday Parks Clarkes Beach
Right on Clarkes Beach and only a ten-minute stroll to the centre of Byron Bay, Reflections Holiday Park is perfect for the bright lights when you want them and tranquillity among nature when you don’t. The park has camping and caravaning pitches plus a range of accommodation options.
You’ll find two modern raised villas for two to five people featuring slatted wooden fronts, light, modern interiors, and a range of accessories you can choose from during booking.
There’s also a selection of traditionally styled cabins that are ideal for families and sleep up to six. Inside, the design is modern with a full-size kitchen, verandah, bedroom, and living room for relaxing. Or if you prefer the static-caravan vibe, there’s a US Airstream and a Silverline too.
Bayview Beachfront Apartments
Barely a stone’s throw from Main Beach, Bayview Beachfront Apartments offers 20 self-contained one and two-bedroom apartments ranging from budget to the Penthouse. Spread around tropical gardens and a large pool, many of the apartments also have ocean views across to the surfers, kayakers, and snorkellers in the bay.
The apartments are ideal for couples or families looking for a quiet sanctuary but still with access to the excitement of Byron Bay’s best restaurants, shops, and nightlife. For lighter sleepers, the house rules are strict on a no noise policy between 10 pm and 8 am.
Luxury accommodation
Elements of Byron
Situated adjacent to quiet and expansive North Belongil Beach, Elements of Byron is an upmarket oasis of relaxation. Set among eucalyptus trees, the modern and stylish villas sleep two to five people, some with full kitchens and others with kitchenettes. Some villas are located around the lagoon, others by the adult pool, and the remainder scattered throughout the tropical gardens.
A poolside cafe offers snacks and sharing plates, while the Azure Terrace restaurant has a modern and healthy menu for lunch and dinner. For cosy evenings, there is a separate bar with a fire pit BBQ, and you can have takeaway food delivered directly to your villa. From the beach lounge, just above the beach, you can enjoy far-reaching views across the bay.
Shambhala @ Byron
Nestled among rainforest trees, Shambhala @ Byron typifies Buddhist peace of mind. Indeed, Shambhala translates to ‘pure land’ or ‘mythical hidden kingdom’. And with just four cottages, Shambala extends plenty of privacy, making it ideal for retreats, honeymoons, or simply rejuvenating with a large dose of vitamin sea.
The facilities are top-notch and include aircon, flat-screen TV, deck areas with views and access to the beach, kitchen, laundry facilities, a spa, and Wi-Fi. Some cottages also have outdoor Balinese baths and hot tubs. You’ll also find a large steam room and a hot rock sauna. As an added bonus, you can bring your furry friends as Shambhala is one of Byron Bay’s best pet-friendly places to stay.
Ocean Suites
Set just a few steps from Tallow Beach, Ocean Suites is a short hop from the centre of Byron Bay. There are two apartments, both the brainchild of a Danish designer, who has combined elements of Scandinavian and Australian beach house styles. The layout is aimed at lie-ins on king-sized beds, soaking up the sun, and relaxing on the balcony.
Each apartment features a seating area and patio plus a fully equipped kitchenette with a fridge, cooker, coffee and tea facilities.
Beach Suites
Pairing boutique studios and beachfront apartments, Beach Suites is the ideal spot for a little 5-star pampering. Six beachfront studios with timber decks, four with plunge pools, offer a haven from the bustle of the beach. The Garden Suite has sumptuous interiors in restrained colours, while the patio doors fully retract allowing access to the tropical garden.
The Penthouse Suite oozes opulence with stone-coloured furnishings set off against wood trim, and you can soak in far-reaching ocean views from the shaded terrace. You can also enjoy a large modern kitchen, ample dining space, complimentary Foxtel and Wi-Fi, and while on the rooftop, you can relax by your own private pool. For the security-conscious, a private lift will transport you from the safety of the underground car park directly to your floor.
Watermark at Wategos
The fine white sands of Wategos Beach make it one of the best beaches in Byron Bay. There’s always something to see here, whether surfers, whales, or dolphins playing in the surf, and the Watermark takes full advantage with a beachfront setting for the five apartments.
Choose from two Beachfront Studios that are literally steps from the beach, two Oceanview Apartments on the first floor, and The Residence.
This luxury apartment can be configured as two or three-bedroom accommodation. The styling is comfortable, with clean light colours contrasting dark wood, houseplants, and panoramic windows to make the best of the view. The quality facilities include Italian marble bathrooms, air conditioning, a Bose sound system, and a flatscreen TV.
Bluewater on the Beach
Possibly the ultimate in Byron Bay beachfront accommodation, you can’t get much closer to the ocean than Bluewater on the Beach. Situated in Belongil, the property features four absolute beachfront villas, a separate beachside house, and two further houses set back on the lawn in tropical gardens. Ideal for groups and families, you can choose from options sleeping four to six people.
All the interior design is white and minimalist with clean lines, and you’ll find a full-size kitchen, which includes a dishwasher and refrigerator. Each of the stunning villas and houses have direct beach access, and surfboards and bikes are available on request.
