Budget
Byron Bay YHA
With its central location, Byron Bay YHA is within easy walking distance of many of Byron’s restaurants, bars, and shops and about a five-minute walk from Main Beach.
You’ll find a variety of options to suit different price points, including twin and double private ensuite rooms with fans or air conditioning. Dorm rooms range between four and ten beds, with some male, some female, and some mixed.
Byron Bay YHA is widely considered one of the best hostels in Byron Bay for its great facilities and chilled vibe. It has a lovely pool and deck area for relaxing, while inside, there’s a chilled reading room, games room, and a communal kitchen. WiFi is free in communal spaces, and if you need to leave your luggage before check-in or after check-out, there’s a secure locker room for valuables.
Wake Up! Byron Bay
A stone’s throw from Belongil Beach, the recently refurbished Wake Up! offers access to quieter beaches while matching the same lively bohemian vibe as central Byron Bay. Accommodation spans double and twin rooms, as well as cottages for six. Smaller dorm-style rooms sleep four people, while larger rooms increase to 12 beds. Women-only rooms are also an option.
Staying at Wake Up! gives you use of their bike, surfboard, and paddleboard hire, plus yoga and fitness classes. Next door, The Tree House Bar and Restaurant is a lively spot to grab a cocktail or wood-fired pizza amongst the palms.
Ruskin House
Ruskin House is a comfortable three-star guesthouse with five rooms. In each, you can enjoy air conditioning, a 32” TV, ceiling fan, and a fridge, along with tea and coffee making facilities. The owners have thoughtfully soundproofed and double glazed all bedrooms to shield light sleepers from the central location.
The property also has a private, shaded courtyard for guests, and there is free WiFi throughout. Main Beach is about a ten-minute stroll, and many of Byron’s top restaurants and shops are just a short walk away.
Byron Springs
Located near Tallow Beach, Byron Springs is a newly refurbished Australian beach house. White is the predominant colour, both inside and out, giving the property an airy and modern feel. Stepping outside, the house is set in mature tropical gardens with plenty of palm trees for shade.
The rooms at Byron Springs are all ensuite with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. You’ll get a simple in-room continental breakfast included in the daily rate, while room service is daily and free WiFi is available around the site. All rooms are supplied with linen, towels, a hairdryer, and an iron and ironing board.
The Surf House
The Surf House (formerly Byron Bay Beach Hostel) sits right in the middle of the action of central Byron, just 50 metres from Main Beach and a short walk to many of the town’s top bars and restaurants. Don’t let the hostel label fool you, though; the property leans very much towards the boutique end of the spectrum.
Set in the heritage-listed Byron Council Chambers building, you’ll find a selection of air-conditioned private ensuite rooms alongside larger, dorm-style rooms for couples, friends, and solo travellers. There’s a huge shared kitchen and dining area, laundry facilities, and daytime secure luggage storage, plus free WiFi is available throughout the property.
Its chilled rooftop bar is understandably popular and serves locally brewed beers and freshly made pizza. The vibe is distinctly nautical, with white picnic tables shaded by blue and white striped umbrellas set off against whitewashed walls and vintage life rings.
Mid-range
Byron Palms Guesthouse
Byron Palms is housed in a converted 1920s cottage that features numerous Art Deco touches. The accommodation varies between king, double, and twin rooms, all offering ensuite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, and a bar fridge.
An adult’s only retreat, Byron Palms invites you to relax on shaded seating in the tropical gardens, take a cooling dip in the swimming pool, or try the magna therapy pool for a soothing bathing experience. The guesthouse includes free parking, and the staff are keen to pass on their local knowledge about Byron Bay’s top attractions.
The Lord Byron
The Lord Byron is an oasis in the centre of town. All rooms feature a minimalist design with pastel colours and wood touches and come with inclusive WiFi and complimentary midday check-out for that last day lie-in. The hotel also offers three fully furnished apartments with two or three bedrooms, a large living room, and a full kitchen.
There’s plenty to enjoy at The Lord Byron. The hotel has a swimming pool with plenty of loungers, a spa with wraparound decking, an undercover cabana and BBQ area, and a tennis court for the lively, all set in lush gardens.
In addition to the property’s stunning outdoor areas, you’ll have access to an indoor lounge and games room, on-site parking, and free bike and surfboard hire.
Aloha Byron Bay
Located between Belongil and Byron Bay, about a ten-minute walk from town, Aloha presents a selection of beach style accommodation that is simply but artfully furnished.
Groups and big families will love the Beach House, which has four large bedrooms. The living area is spacious, with an open-plan living room and kitchen, private pool, BBQ, and outdoor recreation area.
Or for couples and smaller families, a two-bedroom apartment and four studio-style villas offer comfortable accommodation with access to a shared kitchen, swimming pool, and BBQ.
Whichever you choose, you’ll also enjoy outdoor seating, air-conditioning, a washer-drier, a fruit basket, and a room safe.
Bayview Beachfront Apartments
Located just steps from Main Beach, many of Bayview’s apartments offer amazing sea views. With a range of accommodation options, you can enjoy budget tastes or throw caution to the wind with economical one and two-bedroom apartments through to the penthouse. The 20 self-contained apartments are scattered around mature tropical gardens and a swimming pool.
The central location of Bayview Beachfront Apartments is a haven from the town centre buzz but still makes it easily accessible. Light sleepers will be pleased to hear there is a strict no noise policy between 10 pm and 8 am.
Luxury
Crystalbrook Byron (formerly Byron at Byron)
Sheltered in 45-acres of subtropical rainforest, Crystalbrook Byron fuses relaxed five-star accommodation with sustainability.
In your room, you’ll find luxury amenities, including a king-size bed, rainforest enclosed veranda, freestanding bathtub, and a rainforest shower, alongside an extensive entertainment suite and inclusive WiFi. While the Rainforest and Treetop Suites are perfect for couples, you can also book them as two interconnecting rooms for family use.
The resort features an infinity pool, a day spa, and boardwalk trails through the gardens, where you’ll see thriving honeybee colonies and, a little further away, the open expanse of Tallow Beach.
Crystalbrook Byron has two restaurants, the Verandah, which serves cocktails and lighter bites, and the main restaurant, Forest Byron Bay, which showcases local, sustainably-sourced Australian ingredients.
The Bower
Combining upscale New York elegance with Byron Bay’s boho-chic style, The Bower offers luxury boutique accommodation on the outskirts of town. The property is just a short drive or a 15-minute walk from the centre of Byron, but its award-winning circular mineral pool and garden bar may mean you won’t want to leave.
The contemporary and sumptuously designed accommodation spans 28 guest rooms across The Bower Suites, Barn, Studios, House, and Cottage. The Bower Barn is ideal for a couple’s retreat and features a high-pitched roof of reclaimed timber, while its crowning glory is the glass ceiling in the ensuite bathroom. Bubble bath under the stars, anyone?
The Bower Cottage hosts ten guests comfortably in contemporary rooms decorated in softer colours with vintage fittings, while outside, there’s an exclusive cedar mineral spa. The Bower House accommodates eight with an open-plan interior that is light, modern, and inviting. All rooms have air-conditioning, a Nespresso coffee machine, a gourmet minibar, smart TV, WiFi, and parking.
Beach Suites
Overlooking Main Beach, Beach Suites provides sun lovers with five-star accommodation in studios and beachfront apartments. Rooms are individually decorated, and the six beachfront studios have their own timber decking, while four have plunge pools. The Garden Suite is decorated in softer colours, with lavish, soft furnishings and patio doors you can fully retract to feel part of the gardens.
The Penthouse Suite is opulent, naturally, with light fabrics contrasting darker wood. The shaded terrace offers views across the bay, a private pool, and ample dining for six. As you’d expect, the amenities are top-notch with a large kitchen, flat-screen TV, DVD, WiFi, Foxtel, secure parking, and a private lift that will take you directly to your floor.
Beach Suites is also one of the few luxury pet-friendly accommodation options in Byron Bay. You’ll pay an extra fee, but they’ll make sure your furry friend is just as spoiled as you.
28 Degrees Byron Bay
On the doorstep of central Byron, 28 Degrees is a sanctuary of luxury, relaxation, and slow living. An adults-only guesthouse, you’ll find an extensive selection of books in place of a TV and accommodation consciously designed with rest and rejuvenation in mind.
28 Degrees offers four room types, including Plunge Pool rooms, which feature private heated plunge pools and decks.
On the second floor, the Lighthouse room has an antique bath and views of Cape Byron Lighthouse. Main Classic rooms enjoy access to the common areas, including a lap pool, deck, and gourmet kitchen. And the spacious Luxury Master room also has access to the shared amenities, plus views of the lighthouse.
For breakfast, 28 Degrees serves complimentary homemade paleo Granola with seasonal fruit compote and organic yoghurt.
The Villas of Byron
Within a 10-minute stroll of Main Beach and with a backdrop of verdant coastal rainforest, The Villas of Byron presents a selection of luxury villas where the theme is privacy, relaxation, and indulgence. Each villa has its own heated pool, spa, and shower set in tropical gardens.
Inside, oversized bedrooms are complimented with ensuite bathrooms, which include Japanese bidets and soaking tubs. During winter, the heated marble floors add a touch of cosiness, while air-conditioning and ceiling fans take the heat off during summer. The white interiors are contrasted with Balinese details and plush furnishings, and an extensive entertainment system makes your stay a home away from home.
When it comes to summoning up a little indulgence, it couldn’t be easier, with candle-lit dinners prepared by a personal chef, spa treatments, and breakfast and picnic hampers all within a call to reception.
Elements of Byron
Away from the buzz of central Byron Bay, Elements offers a sense of calm in a luxury beachfront resort setting. A selection of modern villas sleeping between two and five are set throughout tropical gardens with eucalyptus trees. Some are arranged around the lagoon, others by the adult pool, and the remainder sited individually for privacy.
Inside, the villas are stylish and light with contemporary furnishings and include a kitchen or kitchenette, TV with free in-house movies, and WiFi.
Elements has several on-site options for food. The Azure Bar and Grill offers fine dining and a range of healthy modern dishes, while poolside service is available for snacks and sharing plates at the central lagoon pool. You can also get bar snacks all day from the lobby bar and firepit. Or, if you’d rather eat in the comfort of your villa, you can order a selection of takeaway food from the Azure Bar and Grill kitchen straight to your door.
Watermark at Wategos
Watermark at Wategos is just steps away from one of Byron Bay’s best beaches, where the fine white sand and surf are home to regular sightings of whales and dolphins. Five apartments include two smaller Beachfront Studios, two Oceanview Apartments with excellent views on the first floor, and The Residence. If preferred, The Residence can be reorganised from two to three-bedroom accommodation on request. The lavish facilities include Italian marble bathrooms, air conditioning, a Bose sound system, and a flat-screen TV.
Décor in the villas has a beach vibe with white walls and pastel blues, set off with plush sofas, houseplants, and artful dried flower arrangements. To make the most of summer, panoramic windows open fully to allow in the breeze and the sound of crashing waves.
